			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It&#8217;s a beautiful but hot day here at Figure 8 Island&#8230;we&#8217;re here for our annual July<br />
4th week family vacation.  I thought I&#8217;d send you a quick note to help get you<br />
thinking about your &#8220;second half&#8221; game plan.  That is, what&#8217;s your plan to make<br />
the second half of 2010 a great one, or maybe your best one?</p>
<p>Hopefully you&#8217;ve put a lot of thought into this already.  Your best results will come<br />
if you&#8217;ve planned ahead of course&#8230;but it&#8217;s not too late to make things happen even<br />
if you&#8217;re behind.  Here are a few &#8220;Action List&#8221; items you can put in place now:</p>
<p>- Create your &#8220;stay in touch&#8221; schedule for the remainder of the year.  Nothing will<br />
do more for your practice than keeping touch regularly with your patients.  At the<br />
head of the line for you should be your practice newsletter (best if monthly).  Also,<br />
consider additional opportunities to contact your patients:</p>
<p>- &#8220;Second tier&#8221; holidays&#8230;these are the best for sending greeting cards!  Why?<br />
Because no one else sends cards then, and you&#8217;ll automatically stand out.  Labor<br />
Day, Halloween, and Thanksgiving (best)  top my list.</p>
<p>- &#8220;End of Year Insurance Letter&#8221;&#8230;yes, you need to start this process in September!<br />
I&#8217;ve found that if I remind my patients at least three times, I get the best response.<br />
You can include this message to use their benefits&#8230;including FLEX&#8230;with your<br />
newsletter and other holiday cards as well.</p>
<p>- Make some offers&#8230;don&#8217;t be afraid to give your patients some incentives to ACT<br />
NOW.  Tie your offers in with the above holidays for your &#8220;reason why&#8221;, which is<br />
critical for your patients not to wonder why you&#8217;re making the offers in the first place.<br />
You can make procedure specific offers (Invisalign, 6 Month Smiles, cosmetics, etc),<br />
or you can offer a % off any treatment.  Be sure to include deadlines to drive your<br />
patients to act quickly.</p>
<p>OK, that&#8217;s enough for now.  The kids are dragging me to the beach (as if I&#8217;d put up a<br />
fight!), and I&#8217;ve gotta put the iPad down.  Have a great week!</p>

already have a super practice, and their potential for stunning

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I&#8217;ve got a few things for you this morning.  First&#8230;</p>
<p>I just got back from an incredible two days in coastal Maine.  I<br />
was visiting one of my Dental Success Blueprint Coaching Program<br />
members (name held privately for now), and his great team.  They<br />
already have a super practice, and their potential for stunning<br />
growth is through the roof!</p>
<p>This doctor knew his practice was doing well, but he also knew<br />
they could be doing SO much better.  His team knew it too!<br />
The most important thing is that he realized that for best results,<br />
he needed to involve trained &#8220;outside eyes&#8221; to help coach him<br />
through their current situation, and to help him lead his team<br />
to new levels.</p>
<p>I spent two full days uncovering the &#8220;buried treasure&#8221; in their<br />
practice.  Much of it can be exposed with simple, even minor<br />
changes to their current systems and strategies&#8230;some changes,<br />
less minor but certainly doable, sooner than later.  &#8221;Little<br />
hinges swing big doors.&#8221;</p>
<p>For example, just three minor changes to their periodontal protocols<br />
could easily result in a GAIN of over $22,000 per MONTH in their<br />
hygiene department alone (3 hygienists).  One more tweak in hygiene<br />
will propel them another $65,000 annually.  And don&#8217;t even get me<br />
started on the doctor&#8217;s side.  We found opportunities there estimated<br />
conservatively at over $210,000 annually.</p>
<p>If they follow through with their commitment to constructive change,<br />
they will no doubt enjoy annual growth well into the &#8220;6 figures&#8221;.<br />
I&#8217;ll keep you posted on their progress.</p>
<p>Next&#8230;on a much lighter note&#8230;</p>
<p>I just have to share with you my 3 y.o. daughter Olivia&#8217;s favorite<br />
new word:</p>
<p>&#8220;iPaaaaaad!&#8221;</p>
<p>Yes, I finally got my iPad two Saturdays ago, and I&#8217;m loving it.<br />
So are my kids!  In fact, Olivia is literally obsessed with<br />
watching Netflix movies on it&#8230;many can be downloaded immediately<br />
for play on the iPad.  So far Dora The Explorer (Season 3) is her<br />
favorite.</p>
<p>My two boys Reid (6 1/2) and Kenan (5) love the movies too, but<br />
they&#8217;re really into the games, which of course are abundant.  I&#8217;m<br />
discovering educational &#8220;apps&#8221; (programs) as well, and I&#8217;m excited<br />
to learn more of the different ways I can use the iPad to exercise<br />
their brains.</p>
<p>Two words of caution regarding the iPad.  Go slow with the games<br />
and apps&#8230;it&#8217;s easy to get overwhelmed.  And, be prepared to be<br />
&#8220;more generous&#8221; with it than you want, if you have kids!</p>
<p>One last note&#8230;I&#8217;m currently studying how the iPad can be used<br />
most effectively in a dental practice.  So far I&#8217;ve downloaded<br />
three killer apps that I believe will help generate higher<br />
treatment acceptance rates!  Yes, that&#8217;s right.  Sometime in<br />
the next 2-3 months I may do a webinar on how to use the iPad<br />
profitably in your practice (if there is sufficient interest).</p>

invite a caller who schedules an appointment to schedule someone<br />
else from their household.  It goes like this, after the caller<br />
has just been scheduled:</p>
<p>&#8220;Who else in your family may we schedule an appointment for today?&#8221;</p>
<p>This simple question certainly does not work as frequently as<br />
McDonald&#8217;s famopus one-liner&#8230;but you&#8217;ll be pleased when it<br />
does work.  For every additional person you schedule using<br />
this simple verbal skill, you&#8217;ll DOUBLE or maybe TRIPLE the<br />
effectiveness of that &#8220;new patient phone call&#8221;!  How &#8217;bout that?</p>
<p>Moreover, if that caller originates from an external marketing<br />
source and they schedule one additional person, you&#8217;ve just<br />
HALVED your &#8220;acquisition cost&#8221; of those two new patients.<br />
It&#8217;s literally a TWO FOR ONE.</p>
<p>So, from now on, ANY time your team is scheduling a patient on<br />
the phone&#8230;or even IN PERSON too&#8230;have them ask the above<br />
question.  Every time.  It&#8217;s free, but it&#8217;ll occasionally<br />
pay off big time!</p>

<p>Should you make your patients UNcomfortable?  Absolutely, I say!</p>
<p>Before you freak out and send me hate mail about being some kind<br />
of sadistic, mean spirited dentist, let me explain.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m not advocating to make your patients physically uncomfortable.<br />
By all means, don&#8217;t hurt your patients!  Instead, I&#8217;ve been<br />
&#8220;preaching&#8221; for years that, for the best rates of treatment<br />
acceptance you&#8217;ve ever experienced, your patients must be<br />
uncomfortable with their current dental conditions.  And it&#8217;s<br />
up to you and your team to reveal those conditions to your patients.</p>
<p>As I said the other day, people don&#8217;t really want &#8220;dentistry&#8221;.<br />
They want solutions to their problems.  If they don&#8217;t think they<br />
have dental problems, they ain&#8217;t sayin&#8217; &#8220;yes&#8221; to treatment&#8230;<br />
period.</p>
<p>In other words, if they&#8217;re &#8220;comfortable&#8221; with their current<br />
conditions, why in the world would they want to change anything?</p>
<p>People can&#8217;t make the best decisions for their dental health<br />
without ALL of the relevant information&#8230;including digital photos<br />
of their teeth, a thorough discussion of the existing problems<br />
and the RISKS of failing to correct them, and even a story about<br />
a patient with a similar situation who had a negative outcome<br />
by not taking action sooner.</p></div>

So, make your patients UNcomfortable by showing them in detail<br />
what&#8217;s really going on inside their mouths.  Don&#8217;t &#8220;sugar coat&#8221;<br />
it&#8230;tell it like it is without worry of their reaction.  It&#8217;s<br />
the only way to maximize your chances of making them MOST<br />
comfortable by helping them accept your solutions that will help<br />
them achieve optimal oral health.  In fact, by not making them<br />
&#8220;uncomfortable&#8221; enough to seek solutions, you&#8217;ll essentially<br />
guarantee that they&#8217;ll be truly uncomfortable down the road!</div>

<p>&#8220;Go where they are!&#8221;</p>
<p>How would you like to do more of a specific procedure that you&#8217;re<br />

bias in demographics:</p>
<p>- Age (is there a dominant average age?)<br />
- Gender (is there a significant bias?)<br />
- Location (are many from the same part of town?)<br />
- Income level (white collar, blue collar?)<br />
- Education level (are they all college graduates?)<br />
- etc etc</p>
<p>Now&#8230;Go Where They Are!</p>
<p>Once you&#8217;ve figured out any biases among those patients who are<br />
committing to the procedures you&#8217;re interested in building, your<br />
next step is to find out where those people are, and go there.<br />
Your marketing message, if properly targeted, has a great chance<br />
of finding them!</p>
<p>Example: A colleague recently mentioned that the average age of his<br />
6 Month Smiles ortho patients is 21.5 years old.  Brilliant for<br />
just knowing that!</p>
<p>Where do early 20-somethings hang out?  Where is it most likely<br />
that they may see your message&#8230;and others may see it less?</p>
<p>Whichever media you choose, you&#8217;ll want to gravitate toward the<br />
media that is inclined toward that age group.  For starters,<br />
think Facebook (which allows targeted ads), or certain radio<br />
stations that play popular music.</p>
<p>Using this strategy helps you refine your marketing reach toward<br />
those most likely to respond&#8230;and limit the wasteful expense of<br />
&#8220;shotgunning&#8221; your marketing message to an untargeted audience!</p>

<p>2) Here&#8217;s the challenge that will help you get higher treatment<br />
acceptance ratios from your patients!  When I coach dentists and<br />
dental teams from all over the US and Canada, I always find several<br />
areas where they can make improvements and get significantly better<br />
results.  But there are a few BIG problems that, once corrected,<br />
can send acceptance numbers through the roof!</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s one, and it&#8217;s also my challenge to you:</p>
<p>NO &#8220;Dentalese&#8221;!  To patients it&#8217;s a foreign language, and it should<br />
not be used with patients unless they have a dental background.<br />
Oneof the leading reasons people don&#8217;t &#8220;buy&#8221; is because they are<br />
confused.  &#8221;Dentalese&#8221; confuses patients&#8230;you might as well be<br />
speaking French to them.  Then when you try to translate it, you&#8217;re<br />
already in an uphill battle.  Soooooo&#8230;</p>
<p>For the next full business day, you and your team are not allowed<br />
to use any &#8220;Dentalese&#8221; with patients, or with each other.  Work<br />
together to communicate with patients ONLY in layman&#8217;s terms, as<br />
if they would describe dentistry to their friends.</p>
<p>Then, the next business day, do the same thing!  And the next,<br />
and the next&#8230;</p>
<p>You&#8217;ll find that when you STICK to this principle, your patients<br />
won&#8217;t be as confused, and more of them will say &#8220;YES&#8221;.  Funny how<br />
that happens.</p>
<p>Now there are likely more things going on that can thwart acceptance<br />
of treatment recommendations than just your use of Dentalese.  But<br />
if you&#8217;ll dedicate yourself and your team to this principle, you&#8217;ll<br />
definitely see results&#8230;bottom line results!</p>
