What’s your second half game plan?

It’s a beautiful but hot day here at Figure 8 Island…we’re here for our annual July
4th week family vacation.  I thought I’d send you a quick note to help get you
thinking about your “second half” game plan.  That is, what’s your plan to make
the second half of 2010 a great one, or maybe your best one?

Hopefully you’ve put a lot of thought into this already.  Your best results will come
if you’ve planned ahead of course…but it’s not too late to make things happen even
if you’re behind.  Here are a few “Action List” items you can put in place now:

- Create your “stay in touch” schedule for the remainder of the year.  Nothing will
do more for your practice than keeping touch regularly with your patients.  At the
head of the line for you should be your practice newsletter (best if monthly).  Also,
consider additional opportunities to contact your patients:

- “Second tier” holidays…these are the best for sending greeting cards!  Why?
Because no one else sends cards then, and you’ll automatically stand out.  Labor
Day, Halloween, and Thanksgiving (best)  top my list.

- “End of Year Insurance Letter”…yes, you need to start this process in September!
I’ve found that if I remind my patients at least three times, I get the best response.
You can include this message to use their benefits…including FLEX…with your
newsletter and other holiday cards as well.

- Make some offers…don’t be afraid to give your patients some incentives to ACT
NOW.  Tie your offers in with the above holidays for your “reason why”, which is
critical for your patients not to wonder why you’re making the offers in the first place.
You can make procedure specific offers (Invisalign, 6 Month Smiles, cosmetics, etc),
or you can offer a % off any treatment.  Be sure to include deadlines to drive your
patients to act quickly.

OK, that’s enough for now.  The kids are dragging me to the beach (as if I’d put up a
fight!), and I’ve gotta put the iPad down.  Have a great week!

Coaching, “iPaaaaad”, Upcoming Sale, etc.

I’ve got a few things for you this morning.  First…

I just got back from an incredible two days in coastal Maine.  I
was visiting one of my Dental Success Blueprint Coaching Program
members (name held privately for now), and his great team.  They
already have a super practice, and their potential for stunning
growth is through the roof!

This doctor knew his practice was doing well, but he also knew
they could be doing SO much better.  His team knew it too!
The most important thing is that he realized that for best results,
he needed to involve trained “outside eyes” to help coach him
through their current situation, and to help him lead his team
to new levels.

I spent two full days uncovering the “buried treasure” in their
practice.  Much of it can be exposed with simple, even minor
changes to their current systems and strategies…some changes,
less minor but certainly doable, sooner than later.  ”Little
hinges swing big doors.”

For example, just three minor changes to their periodontal protocols
could easily result in a GAIN of over $22,000 per MONTH in their
hygiene department alone (3 hygienists).  One more tweak in hygiene
will propel them another $65,000 annually.  And don’t even get me
started on the doctor’s side.  We found opportunities there estimated
conservatively at over $210,000 annually.

If they follow through with their commitment to constructive change,
they will no doubt enjoy annual growth well into the “6 figures”.
I’ll keep you posted on their progress.

Next…on a much lighter note…

I just have to share with you my 3 y.o. daughter Olivia’s favorite
new word:

“iPaaaaaad!”

Yes, I finally got my iPad two Saturdays ago, and I’m loving it.
So are my kids!  In fact, Olivia is literally obsessed with
watching Netflix movies on it…many can be downloaded immediately
for play on the iPad.  So far Dora The Explorer (Season 3) is her
favorite.

My two boys Reid (6 1/2) and Kenan (5) love the movies too, but
they’re really into the games, which of course are abundant.  I’m
discovering educational “apps” (programs) as well, and I’m excited
to learn more of the different ways I can use the iPad to exercise
their brains.

Two words of caution regarding the iPad.  Go slow with the games
and apps…it’s easy to get overwhelmed.  And, be prepared to be
“more generous” with it than you want, if you have kids!

One last note…I’m currently studying how the iPad can be used
most effectively in a dental practice.  So far I’ve downloaded
three killer apps that I believe will help generate higher
treatment acceptance rates!  Yes, that’s right.  Sometime in
the next 2-3 months I may do a webinar on how to use the iPad
profitably in your practice (if there is sufficient interest).

Variation of “Would You Like Fries With That?”

Here’s a quick “Monday Morning” tip for you.  I originally
got the idea from McDonald’s, who skyrocketed their sales
decades ago by adding one simple question after each customer
placed an order for a burger:
“Would you like fries with that?”

One of the first documented “upsell” statements was born there!

A great dental application of this same strategy is to simply
invite a caller who schedules an appointment to schedule someone
else from their household.  It goes like this, after the caller
has just been scheduled:

“Who else in your family may we schedule an appointment for today?”

This simple question certainly does not work as frequently as
McDonald’s famopus one-liner…but you’ll be pleased when it
does work.  For every additional person you schedule using
this simple verbal skill, you’ll DOUBLE or maybe TRIPLE the
effectiveness of that “new patient phone call”!  How ’bout that?

Moreover, if that caller originates from an external marketing
source and they schedule one additional person, you’ve just
HALVED your “acquisition cost” of those two new patients.
It’s literally a TWO FOR ONE.

So, from now on, ANY time your team is scheduling a patient on
the phone…or even IN PERSON too…have them ask the above
question.  Every time.  It’s free, but it’ll occasionally
pay off big time!

On taking action…now!

“It isn’t what you know, it’s what you do with it.”  I’ve spoken
to many, many dentists who have massive levels of clinical
skill, yet they are unable to leverage their talents to their
potential because of limits in internal systems, marketing,
communications, etc.

“All the knowledge in the world won’t make you one more dollar
if you don’t take action.”  If you’ve ever been frustrated just
one week after that last “awesome” CE course, you know what I’m
talking about.

“So why don’t people do MORE with what they know?
Because it’s too hard, too complicated, or takes too much time.”
For many, doing things outside of that dental “comfort zone”
is uncomfortable…yet that’s often the KEY to converting what
you CAN do into what you DO do.

“Want to have impact right away?
Immediately begin making small, easy, quick changes.”
‘Little hinges swing big doors.’

Start doing those things I’ve been bugging you about all these
months and years.  Begin with one project, get it going, and
then LAYER another on top of it.  Delegate it, outsource it,
get it DONE.  Your benefits will outweigh any perceived “pain”
you experience!
